Study Kahoot Question Types — Practise and Review

Understand how each Kahoot question format works so you can revise a set and practise on your own — not during a live, graded game.

What is Kahoot?

Kahoot is a game-based learning platform from Kahoot! ASA, used widely in classrooms for live quiz games shown on a shared screen while players answer on their own devices. A teacher launches a "kahoot" with a game PIN, and the class races to answer each timed question, earning points for being correct and quick. It is most often used as a warm-up, a formative check, or end-of-topic revision. Beyond live play, learners and teachers also use Kahoot in self-paced study modes to work through a set at their own speed. Its scored question types — Quiz, True/False, Type Answer, Puzzle, Slider and Pin Answer — all have a defined correct answer, which makes them genuinely useful to review afterwards. Opinion formats such as Poll, Word Cloud, Brainstorm and Open-Ended have no single right answer and are used for discussion rather than testing recall.

Question types you'll see on Kahoot

  • Multiple Choice — Kahoot's core "Quiz" question: a prompt with up to four coloured answer tiles and one correct option.
  • Multiple Response — A Quiz question can be set to accept more than one correct answer, so several tiles must be selected.
  • True/False — Kahoot's "True or False" format — two fixed tiles with exactly one correct option.
  • Short Answer — "Type Answer" asks players to type a short word or phrase, validated against accepted answers with no tiles to guess from.
  • Ordering — Kahoot's "Puzzle" question: drag the answer tiles into the correct sequence, e.g. steps, dates or formula parts.
  • Numeric — The "Slider" question requires choosing a number on a scale, with the correct value (within a margin) scored.
  • Hotspot — "Pin Answer" shows an image and asks you to drop a pin on the correct point or region, like a map or diagram.

New to any of these? The question-type glossary explains how each format works, with examples.

How to study for it

Treat Kahoot as revision, not a race. After a live game ends, ask your teacher to share the kahoot or open it in a self-paced mode so you can go back through every question without the timer pressure. For Quiz and True/False items, cover the tiles and try to recall the answer before revealing it, then note why the distractors are wrong. For Type Answer questions, write the term from memory — spelling counts — rather than recognising it from a list. Rebuild Puzzle questions by reasoning out the correct order yourself before checking. For Slider items, estimate the value and learn the underlying figure, and for Pin Answer, study the labelled diagram so you can locate features unaided. The goal is to be able to answer the whole set cold, on your own — never to look anything up mid-game.

Study for Kahoot with AI Solve Quiz

AI Solve Quiz is a study aid for reviewing a set on your own time — not for use during a live, graded or proctored Kahoot. When you are practising or revising afterwards, capture a single question and it explains the answer: the text engine handles selected wording for Quiz, True/False and Type Answer items, while the Gemini vision engine reads a captured screenshot of a Puzzle, Slider or Pin Answer question, including any image or diagram. Each capture returns a worked explanation so you understand why an answer is right, not just what it is. It only assists with objective, auto-checkable formats. It does not join live games, does not answer Polls, Word Clouds, Open-Ended or Brainstorm questions, and does not produce drawings, essays or audio responses.

For practice and learning only — never during a live, proctored, or graded Kahoot assessment. See our Academic Integrity Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI Solve Quiz play a live Kahoot game for me?
No. It is a study aid for reviewing or practising a set on your own time. It does not join games or submit answers, and you should never use it during a live, graded or proctored Kahoot — that breaches academic integrity.
Which Kahoot question types can it actually help me revise?
Only scored, objective formats: Quiz (multiple choice), True/False, Type Answer, Puzzle (ordering), Slider (numeric) and Pin Answer. It cannot help with Poll, Word Cloud or Open-Ended questions, which have no single correct answer.
How does it handle Kahoot questions that use an image or diagram?
Capture a screenshot and the Gemini vision engine reads the picture — for example a Pin Answer map or a Puzzle layout — then explains the correct answer. Plain text questions are handled by the text engine from the selected wording.
