PMP Exam Format & Question Types

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is a leading project-management certification. Its exam pairs multiple choice with several interactive formats, and a 2026 update adds new question types.

Heads up: PMP 2026 (effective July 2026) adds Case/Scenario and Graphic-Based question types and changes the question count to 180. Prep written for the older format may not reflect this.

Format

PMP 2026 (effective July 2026): 180 questions (170 scored + 10 pretest) in 240 minutes. The legacy exam had 175 scored + 5 pretest in 230 minutes.
